Start your King's journey

One community set across two dedicated age-appropriate sites

The Essence of King's College, Taunton

Join pupils Andrew and Emmanuella on a tour around King’s College, Taunton. Follow them on a journey to uncover some of our best-kept secrets as they meet staff and fellow pupils across all corners of the school – a wonderful green space right in the heart of town.

Our Prep and Senior schools are located on two separate sites, each with their own highly dedicated teachers but with shared facilities. But at its essence, King’s is all about community. The grounds serve as a stunning backdrop but the real beauty lies in our holistic ethos and shared values.

King's College Headmaster, Michael Sloan, explains: “All of this is what makes King's so special. Outstanding facilities, endless opportunities, and a focus on developing intellectual curiosity, and embedding a life-long love of learning.”

Space to Breathe

"King’s is a big piece of 'rural' hidden in the middle of a town, full of wonderful spaces to breathe."

One of the most important (and possibly worrisome) tasks of any parent is choosing the right school for your child. It isn’t just a question of admiring the buildings or asking about exams; childhood is about much more than that. At King’s, we can remove that worry as children have the space to breathe, discover their passions and develop into well-rounded, happy young adults.

The College and Prep School are just a few minutes apart, both situated in picturesque, rural settings on the outskirts of Taunton, each with their own wealth of facilities, resources and specialist staff, giving King’s its distinctive edge. There is literally space to do it all.

Joining King's at 11

When it comes to the move to ‘big school’ at age 11, many parents assume that the best choice is to progress straight to a senior school that has an 11+ intake and runs all the way to age 16 or 18.

In our two-site model, pupils joining at 11 begin in the more intimate atmosphere of King's College Prep School, where they find their feet before moving at 13 to our senior school, King’s College.

Joining King's at 13

For those joining us at 13, we hold a number of events ahead of Michaelmas Term, to help pupils get to know the school a little better, to help them prepare for the term ahead, and to enable them to make new friends and meet their houseparents and tutors.

In the first few days of the new school term, each new pupil has a buddy and a tutor, both of whom will be there to help them find their feet as they navigate through the two-week induction process.

In the Third Form all pupils take a wide range of subjects, including design technology, music, drama and PE. All pupils are offered the option of a second foreign language (German or Spanish), and it is also possible to take Latin.

Joining King's at 16

Many pupils decide to join King's at 16. Sixth Form years can be the most exciting period in a person’s education. Pupils study subjects of their choice, and they study these subjects to a greater depth. They can follow their own lines of thought while working closely with teachers and peers. There is no other time when there is so much potential for being influenced by new ideas. Often pupils arrive with one career in mind and leave with a completely different plan, having been inspired by an experience or a person at school.
